Botswana Wonder (Aeschynomene Fluitans)

Plant Description

Botswana Wonder (Aeschynomene Fluitans) is an attractive and unusual tropical plant that floats on the surface of the water and grows very quickly over the summer months, often spreading 6' or more. The foliage has airy fronds of leaves, spaced out over the length of the stems and spreads by rhizome. The dainty, yellow flowers appear over the lovely, green foliage.  Botswana Wonder is a wonderful replacement plant where water lettuce and water hyacinths are prohibited! Botswana Wonder is larger version of the Sensitive Plant. Looks great as it winds its way through a streambed or a waterfall.

Width Can grow to lengths of six feet or more over the summer months

Sunlight Requirements Full sun to part shade

Moisture Needs Must be placed on the surface of the water 

Bloom Time Blooms off and on throughout the summer months with occasional blooms

 Overwinters in plant zones 10 - 12, treated as an annual in all northern locations. 

This plant cannot be shipped to California. 

Planting Instructions

No Planting Necessary, simply place Botswana Wonder on the surface of the water and enjoy! One end may be placed in the soil to anchor the plant in a specific place!

Fun Fact The leaves of Botswana Wonder are sensitive and curl inward when touched! The leaves return to normal in a few minutes.
